A few Christmas Images

Berry Boys!
Meanwhile, the photographer sits clutching her fire extinguisher in the corner; twitching slightly as the candles burn....

The candles from Calgary were very pretty on the dinner table!

The nutcracker gets his chestnuts warmed in the light of the candle!

New hog for the tree!

Louise in the basket chair by the fire!

View from next to the fire extinguisher.

New owl for the tree

Christmas celebrations with loot!

The turkey's in the oven and we haven't opened the stockings yet!

Pretty Bathroom Ready for Christmas

The new bathroom was ready to receive guests! and it has definitely done so :)

It's very hard to photograph the new bathroom!

Close to Ready for Christmas

The clerestory windows have had colourful pictures installed in them.

The shower stall has gone in and we're waiting for the silicone to dry before the final finishing touches are done.

Bathroom is still full of tools but getting closer to useable.
The presents are lining up in the great room windows.

A bit more progress has been made on the library floor.

The Guest Bedroom Bed Arrival

The new bed has been delivered and is ready for sleepers!
It's very inviting and hopefully will be a very well used room in the long run.

The bed frame has the drawers built right in so that we don't have to take up any space for a chest of drawers in the room or closet.

We're feeling quite 'hotel-like' :)

The hallway is 2/3 done.  The hardwood floor nailer doesn't work close to the wall so we need to get a regular air nailer to complete this part.

The work has progressed into the future kitchen area.  Only a couple of hundred square feet to go.

Looking from the kitchen area to the rest of the great room.  Christmas in front of the big fire will be a treat this year!

Looking down the loft stairs to the new floor is very satisfying.

Worker man is still hard at it on Sunday night.

Slow Going on Hardwood Flooring

When you take the picture from this direction it looks like we're finished with hardwood flooring.

The boards are waiting to be installed in the hallway. It has been a long and challenging process to get the first row of boards straight down the long hallway.  Also, the octagon end of the hallway had to have the old flooring removed, so that we could run the hardwood to the future entry way to the master bedroom.

It's looking very good even though we have a long way to go still.

The remaining boards can be seen in the corner in the back of this image.  We've opened half the boxes so far but only installed about one third of them. We are both very tired!

Tuesday Hardwood Flooring Progress

We had help from a friend for the day with the hardwood flooring. It really moved things along at a quicker pace!

We got the flooring started in the dining room area this afternoon.

A look at the great room from the other direction!

Monday Progress on the Hardwood Floor

Figuring out how and where to start the floor was one of the biggest challenges of the day.  Along with no manual for the nailer, a compressor with an attitude and a lot of time consumed cutting angled pieces, it was a slow start to the flooring project.

By the end of the day we had the hang of it; the pieces on the left of the image are nailed down and the ones to the right are just  dry fit together waiting to be moved into place and nailed down.

HK had to take an important phone call from AK!

Bathroom Progress and Laundry Room Tiles Arrive

The bathroom floor tile mosaic has been started.

The laundry room tiles have arrived.  They'll be installed once we're finished the hardwood floors in the Great Room.

November is almost over!

The Great Room was full of tools and supplies on Friday.
By Saturday we had it cleaned out. It hasn't been this empty in a very long time and it's really nice to see the actual room again; it seems much bigger without a lot of stuff in it.

By Sunday we had the floor prepped; high points sanded down and most of the underlay down.
The first boxes of floor have been put out to see the variation in the Ash.
There are quite a few different colours and wood grains within the boxes.

A few more odds and ends

Pictures have been hung in the spare bedroom. The bed frame and side tables/bookshelves have been ordered; we hope to have those before Christmas.

The bathroom tiling is coming along nicely.  The floor had to receive another scratch coat with a wire mesh support as the mosaic tiles were a little small for the Ditra mats to work properly.

Henrik has cleared out the baseboards and window frames from the great room in preparation for hardwood flooring.

The baseboards and window trims are now hanging out in the basement awaiting their turn at installation.

View Blocker Removal

The trees have been slowly closing in the view corridor.  The Olesons have been removing trees to protect their cottages, and agreed to remove the view blocking trees.

So far two of the view blockers are gone and we are going to be happy to see the mountains behind when the skies clear.

October Developments

HK is working hard on the guest bathroom, creating in form the ideas he has been working on for the last few months.
It's looking really spectacular! and will be done in no time, ready for Christmas cheer and visitors.

The bedroom is largely complete, though it needs some more furniture, and the baseboard connected, to feel more cozy.

The bed is rather inviting on a sleepy Sunday afternoon.

AOs wood chopping adventures have yielded good squirrel like stashes for the winter.

The periwinkle is blooming in October!
