Sunny Saturday

The new Japanese Maple looks fiery in the afternoon sun.

Brickwork continues around the front door.

Henrik is building supports for the peas.
I planted too many again :)

The laburnum is in full bloom.
Hundreds if not thousands of bumble bees have found the trees.

Poppies are about to bloom

The Gift of Camas Lilies

Camas Lily in the rain
The octagon end of the house through the trees.

This year the Camas has won centre stage.
The cold weather means that the grass has not become taller than the blooms and we have a fabulous purple show.

Some of this weekend's work

Slowly but surely our house is getting covered in bricks.

It is not surprizing that the mason wanted 35K to do this job.
Henrik spent a good portion of Sunday shaping lumpy bricks on a tile saw.
This will make the job of laying the bricks much easier, and hopefully faster too.

Window Finishing

Henrik has been working on the window finishing all weekend.
There isn't a square corner or a flat wall to be found anywhere in the dormer.

The windows look fabulous with fir and cherry trim.

The corner window provided a multi-angle challenge.

Brickwork Progress

Turned the corner to start on the next section of wall.

The first section of wall is complete.
All that is required now is a cleaning with lemon juice and a scrub with a wire brush.

Magnolia and Masses of Shooting Stars

The new magnolia has several pinky white flowers.

It has been given some deer deterrent and some stakes.

Just 6 feet tall right now, but with some good nourishment and lots of water hopefully it will reach it's full size in 10 - 15 years
A mass of shooting stars.

Spring Happenings

The potatoes have started to show their leaves.

Shooting stars in all their pink/purple glory! Thousands of them are in bloom now and the Camas aren't far behind.

Xeranthemum in the greenhouse.

Mason bees have been put out now that the plum and cherry trees are in bloom.
Hopefully in a couple of days they will emerge and start pollinating at the perfect time for the arrival of the apple blossoms.

Tulips in the morning sunshine.
