September Reno Progress

The bathroom floor mosaic is starting to be created.

Bathroom tiles and their aluminum companions are getting ready for installation.

HK is filling in all the tiny cracks in the new crown molding and baseboards.

The crown molding above the bedroom window and closet has been completed.

View of the crown holding meeting the clerestory windows on the hall wall of the guest bedroom.

Miles more trim for around all of the inside doors.

Wildberry Garden in September

Honey bee in white Zinnia, we're very glad that there are live honeybees in our garden; someone must have a hive reasonably close by that hasn't been affected by colony collapse.
Honey bee in the spiders web. There are a vast number of spiders around right now and they're very very busy.

The new loganberry trellis has been built and the vines attached to it. It's good to have them off the ground and doing well as we thought the vine was dead a couple of years ago after a harsh winter.

The tomatoes continue to produce vast quantities of sweet fruit.

The deck frog has squished himself above the LED lights today.
Last week the deck frog was in the geranium pot, though it was quite a bit warmer last Sunday.

A larger version of the deck frog was hanging out on the lower part of the railing.

Flowers in Bloom

Asters in the sunshine.

More asters in the sunshine....

Anemone's with their brilliant pink and yellow.

Benary's Giant Zinnias in full bloom.

Quinoa - two plants actually grew to full size; now we just have to figure out how to harvest and prepare the seeds.

Yummy sweet orange tomatoes are ripening daily.

Pretty pink Fuscia.

Labour Day 2012

Window trim and baseboards are complete in the bedroom
The clerestory windows have been trimmed out and are awaiting their glass pieces.
Ensuite window trim is complete.
Dining room window trim.
The big celebration for AO this weekend.  The end of the bricks has come.  Next weekend they get cleaned up with lemon juice and then the trowel will be sitting still for a really long time.

Out Out Damn Rat - oops I mean Out Out Damn Townsends Vole

Carnage in the pole bean plot.
Someone has been chewing the plants off at the bases and leaving the remnants on the ground, and sick little stubby plant stalks bleeding sap around each pole.
Not in my garden you nasty little vermin. The peanut butter laden trap was implemented at 1:30 pm.

The rat zapper, always a reliable pal, had been unsuccessful the night before in dealing with the vermin.
At 2 pm the vermin was snapped in the shiny new peanut butter laden trap. Out of my garden.....you're not welcome here.

Doors, Closets and Bricks

The new ensuite door has been painted and installed.  It will ultimately have a blind on the inside for privacy, but for now it's letting the light through.

The guest bedroom closet has been fitted out. It still needs a dresser but we'll find one of those soon enough.
AO continues brickwork up the wall.
The rotten birds have been destroying the new pole beans by cutting them off at the ground level.  We put screens in place to keep them out and hopefully the carnage will stop.

AARGH - I blamed the wrong vermin....the beans continued to be chewed off and we've lost 30% of the plants.  A quick trip to Buckerfields and the purchase of some new rodent traps caught a Townsends Vole within 30 minutes...in the middle of the day.  I hope she was travelling alone but fear that voles usually occur in larger numbers so will leave the traps out for a while longer.

Sunday Developments

Many many screws have gone into the bathroom walls to help support the weight of the granite tiles to come!

HK has been working diligently on baseboards and window trim. It has been a long process to figure out how to actually make them glossy.

AO continues the brickwork; the dining room window is the last piece of brickwork left to complete.  Only a few more days work and it will be done forever :)
